Curator Travels to Pacific

In March 2012, MOA Curator Dr. Carol E. Mayer travelled to the Pacific in March to lead a workshop on strategic planning at the Fiji Museum, and to interview and film canoe makers and canoe sailings in the village of Korovo for a virtual exhibit on canoes now in production at MOA. Carol was also invited by the Erromango Cultural Association to work on the final stages of a book that records the memories of the descendants of the Rev. John Williams, who was murdered in 1839, and the proceedings of a community reconciliation ceremony that took place in November 2009. This ceremony was initiated by MOA following a donation of objects to MOA that once belonged to the Rev. Williams. The book, funded by the Christensen Fund, will be launched on November 20, 2012, the 173rd anniversary of the death of Rev. John Williams, and distributed to family members, schools, and libraries in the Pacific.that once belonged to the Rev. Williams.
