Construction and renovation activities during the Renewal Project will necessitate the relocation of almost all of the 35,000 objects within
the Museum's collection. MOA's collections will remain on site through the renovation project, so objects must be carefully packed and stored within areas
that are isolated from construction activity. The move team will keep one step ahead of construction activity, relocating material to safe zones as construction
progresses. A variety of packing techniques have been developed to ensure that the objects can be safely and efficiently moved. While many of the objects
previously available for view in the Visible Storage area will be temporarily inaccessible to the public, many objects have also been relocated to the public
galleries, where they will remain on view throughout the project. In preparation for the move, over 10,000 objects have already been removed from their original
locations and packed, including approximately 3,400 objects from general ethnology storage, and almost 1,000 ceramics from ceramics storage rooms as well as a
large portion of objects from the Visible Storage area. Over 5,500 textiles have been moved from their previous storage room to the Museum's retrofitted theatre.
Reinstallation of the collections into the new Research Centre's visible storage area is expected to take place between June to December 2009.
