Frequently Asked Questions
Donations and Acquisitions
Objects offered for sale or donation to the collections are managed the Acquisitions Committee. For further information, or to make a financial contribution to one of our many endowments and special project funds, please contact the Museum directly at 604.822.5087 or info@moa.ubc.ca.
Appraisals
MOA does not provide financial appraisals of any objects, nor do we endorse one appraiser over another. Please check the Yellow Pages under 'Appraisers' or 'Auctioneers' if such information is needed.
Identification of Objects
If you have an object you'd like identified, please WRITE or CALL AHEAD to make an appointment with the appropriate staff member. If possible, include photographs of the object with your letter, along with a detailed description of it. Please note that not all requests can be met, either because background information supplied is insufficient, appropriate staff are unavailable, or expertise may reside elsewhere. For further information on identifying objects, please call 604.822.5087 during regular office hours (M-F, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm).
Archaeology
All calls reporting archeological sites or objects discovered should be referred to the Inventory and Evaluation Section, Resource Management Division of the Heritage Conservation Branch in Victoria (250-387-5030). Visitors who wish to have individual objects identified should first make an appointment with appropriate Museum staff (see above).
Conservation
MOA's conservators can offer advice on treatments for SOME objects, but do not provide private conservation services. For information on contacting a conservator, please write the Canadian Association of Professional Conservators, c/o Canadian Museums Association, Suite 400, 280 Metcalfe Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K2P 1R7.
